Custom Header Beams - Sherman, TX
Project Overview
A Sherman contractor building a large metal building addition needed custom welded header beams for six oversized garage door openings. The structural design required built-up box beams fabricated from flat plate and wide flange sections - not a standard off-the-shelf product. Metal Warehouse Inc. fabricated all 12 header pieces (two per opening, upper and lower) in our Sherman shop using material from our own inventory.
The Challenge
The structural drawings called for a specific box beam configuration that required precise cutting, fit-up, and welding to tight dimensional tolerances. The contractor needed all pieces within a week to stay on schedule for the door frame installation.
Our Solution
We reviewed the engineering drawings with our fabrication team, confirmed material availability, and completed all 12 pieces in three days. Each beam was marked with its corresponding opening number to eliminate confusion on the job site.
Outcome
The contractor installed all headers without a single field modification. The quality of the welds and dimensional accuracy were noted by the structural inspector during the framing inspection.
